Facials Promote Healthy Skin

Facials Promote Healthy Skin
A facial is a procedure used to help promote healthy skin on your face. It can consist of many different treatments like creams, lotions, peels, masks, extraction and exfoliation.

Facials are done in beauty salons and spas by licensed aestheticians. They are three basic types: Mini-Facial, European Facial and LED Light Therapy Facial. There are specialty facials as well like age-defense, oxygen, collagen, photo and acne facials.

A facial starts out with the aesthetician selecting a cleansing product based on your skin type (normal, oily, dry or combination, mature, sensitive). Using cotton sponges or pads, the cleanser is applied.

Once your skin is cleaned thoroughly, she will cover your eyes, so that she can examine your face under a bright light and magnifying lamp. This will allow her to see any skin conditions that are present.

The next step is to exfoliate, either with a chemical or mechanical exfoliant. Mechanical exfoliants have a texture that is gritty. Then steam is applied either in a vapor form or with a towel.

Then, extraction would be the next step, but is optional. Extraction is the removal of any whiteheads or blackheads. Pain tolerance varies with each individual. It can be painful, cause discoloration and broken capillaries if done incorrectly or on sensitive skin.

A facial can also include a facial massage using special strokes to relax you. It also stimulates your skin and muscles in the face.

A mask would be applied based on your skin type, just as with the cleaner.

The facial would conclude with toners and protective skin creams.

The aesthetician will also give you advice on how to take care of your skin at home.

It is recommended to get a facial every 4 to 6 weeks, though it can vary based on the individual. But your skin will take about that long to regenerate itself. So you can treat yourself to a facial monthly. Otherwise, you can just get one with the season changes. Some conditions, like acne, may require more frequent facials.

Other variations of the facial have names that are pretty self-explanatory of the procedures. With an age-defense, vitamin C is added, oxygen adds pure oxygen mist, collagen involves placing collagen sheets over the face and photo uses special light to treat specific conditions.
