Healthy Snacks For Young children – Getting Them to Scoff Vegetables
Healthy Snacks For Young children – Getting Them to Scoff Vegetables
Providing a kid a healthy snack of bite size vegetables is far more nutritious than a small package of crisps of chocolate. We all know the wellbeing benefits of eating our ‘5 a day’ fruit and vegetable quotas, but how do you get offspring to eat fruit and vegetables as part of a nourishing meal without any challenges?
There are plenty of ways – some pretty understandable like including vegetables to a main meal and having a fruit based desert, yet this is not always so straightforward and you may need a little imagination to support the child into eating them. It’s up to us, as father and mother or primary carers to guarantee the relevant vitamins and minerals, fiber and goodness is given to our children, so with a little imagination this can be accomplished.
Color – with a rainbow of color on a plate, as a healthy snack, how can a youngster shove it away? It appears appetizing fresh and scrumptious. Many offspring will eat raw foods, so carrots, slices of red, green, orange and yellow peppers, vine tomatoes, mange tout and baby corn all make for an eye catching vegetable platter, and with the inclusion of meat or other protein, provide a nutritious meal. This can be adopted in the same technique by a rainbow of fruit. Why not make a fun game of coloring in pictures of vegetables to match what your child has consumed?
Showcase – a blob of pale green slime is off putting for even us, so how can we expect a child to eat it. By offering it in an attractive way will encourage your little one to attempt it (remember those horrible school lunches – goodness knows what they consisted of!).
Case in point – by dining with your child and showing them what is acceptable, encouraging him to try a vegetable with you and making the meal fun will diminish any anxiety. It has been well researched that offspring learn by example, so if mum dislikes sprouts, chances are so will the child, though there are loads of alternatives for sprouts.
Consider this – how can you make a vegetable fun? Vegetables can be made into humorous shapes, similar to a caterpillar or geometrical pattern, let your toddler help, it will encourage them by touch, texture and appearance. Also take into consideration using bedtime stories to make vegetables fun and engaging – think the humble carrot as the ‘King of the Jungle’, in its place of a lion, or a corn cob as a damsel in distress! There are so many kinds of vegetables for creating stories from a ‘Vegetable Kingdom’.

Bone Health – Ways To Retain Your Strength
Bone Health – Ways To Retain Your Strength
Does your family have a history of osteoporosis, arthritis and other health conditions that affect skeletal strength? Getting older brings on a whole new set of worries and concerns for many people, and few are prepared to take steps to restore their bone health once they start to experience symptoms of a degenerative condition. If you’re concerned about developing one of these conditions as you start to get older, it’s important to learn as much as you can about how bones and joints are maintained and what you can do to keep them strong.
One of the things that most people don’t realize about bone health is that you don’t have to be old to develop one of these debilitating bone and joint conditions. Although osteoporosis and arthritis are most common among older people, especially post-menopausal females, it’s become increasingly popular for these conditions to start showing up in younger people and in males as well. The best way to treat these kinds of conditions is to take steps for preventative care while you are still feeling healthy. That way, you’ll have to time to build up resistance to the free radicals and deterioration that can occur in later years.
The most popular conventional treatment for restoring bone health in older age is a pharmaceutical drug known as Fosamax. Even though the biophosophates in Fosamax have been shown to prevent loss of bone density, it has also been shown to slow the development and growth of new bone. Some people are skeptical of whether pharmaceutical drugs like Fosamax are actually beneficial for those that are looking to restore their skeletal strength. Some are starting to turn to more holistic treatments that can work with the body’s natural healing systems instead of against them.
If you’ve interested in using natural remedies for restoring bone health, one of the first things you should look at is the way that you’re eating. There are some foods that are known to encourage the body to produce calcium as well as those that can help the body produce the cartilage and lubricant that naturally nests around the joints. If it’s difficult for you to work these foods into your diet, you can also try taking supplements that are known to encourage bone and joint health. When started early and continued on consistently, these supplements have been shown to extend life and increase the density of the bones, preventing painful conditions like osteoporosis and arthritis.
Improve Your Bone Health With Fruits and Vegetables
Improve Your Bone Health With Fruits and Vegetables
In the January issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, researchers show that increasing the alkaline component of your diet will reduce mineral loss from your bones and improve bone health.
Lead author in the study, Bess, Dawson-Hughes is saying “When it comes to dietary concerns regarding bone health, calcium and vitamin D have received the most attention, but there is increasing evidence that the acid/base balance of the diet is also important.”
Diets high in protein and cereal grains including wheat produce an excess of acidic build-up in the body which can cause an excess of mineral excretion from the bones, organs and teeth, which can affect bone health and strength.
Every manufacturer in the health supplementation industry seems to be jumping on the bone health bandwagon. Bone health seems to affect the demographic of the population that is aging.
As we get older, our bone health can deteriorate causing a condition called Osteoporosis. Bottles of ‘cures’ and preventatives are popping up like mushrooms after a rain. After all, women currently have a lifetime risk factor of 30 to 40 percent for an osteoporotic fracture. Men only have an approximate 13 percent chance.
As dietary choices hover more to the acidic forming foods, metabolic acids over the years, actually reduce the body’s ability to excrete acidic accumulations, explains Dawson-Hughes. As the acidic levels rise in the body, the body reacts by initiating a process called bone resorption. This process breaks down bone, releasing minerals such as calcium, phosphates and alkaline salts into the blood where the major alkalizing process takes place. Over time, bone resorption weakens the bones and increases the risk of fractures.
During the study, researchers from Tufts University and scientists from Northeastern University in Boston, studied 171 men and women, aged 50 and older.
Each of the study participants were randomly assigned to receive supplements of potassium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium chloride or a placebo for three months.
Reports indicate that study participants that received bicarbonates had significant reductions in calcium excretion which tells researchers there is a reduction in bone resorption. Dr. Dawson-Hughes reports “When fruits and vegetables are metabolized, they add bicarbonate, an alkaline compound to the body. Our study found that bicarbonate had a favorable effect on bone resorption and calcium excretion. This suggests that increasing the vegetable alkali content of the diet may attenuate bone loss in healthy older adults.”
“Achieving alkali-producing diets would require drastic changes in food choices and be challenging in older people who tend to have long-established dietary patterns,” wrote the researchers. “Should it be shown to be beneficial, an alternative approach may be to administer bicarbonate in supplement form or to lower the acid-producing capacity of selected foods through alkali fortification,” they added.
Leafy vegetables and some fruits have been shown to have higher concentrations of potassium in the form of alkali salts. These alkali salts are very stable in the body and help to fortify bone minerals and prevent resorption. Citrus fruits like lemons and limes in addition to above ground vegetables should constitute the major portion of our diets to restore the blood pH of 7.365. Research has shown that chlorophyll is very similar in structure to the blood and can be easily converted to blood constituents by the body.
Scientists suggest if you eat vegetables and fruits grown within 100 miles of where you live the natural bicarbonates will buffer they acidity formed by your food processing and create a healthier alkaline terrain. The potassium concentrations in green leafy foods is bicarbonate in nature, helping to keep bones and teeth strong and healthy. The challenge will be to get older adults to modify their diets enough for the alkali bicarbonates to be effective.

Suggestions For Better Smoothies Recipe
Suggestions For Better Smoothies Recipe
There are many smoothie bars where you can get your healthy fix whenever you feel the need to but the best smoothies are the ones that you make at home. Aside from costing less, you can choose what goes into your smoothie or better yet, you can make a nice, tall, frosty drink from your own smoothies recipe.
There are no strict rules to go by in order to concoct that perfect smoothie; but there are helpful suggestions you can follow that might result in a beverage that will rival those that are sold in pricey smoothie shops.
When it comes to chilled drinks, frozen fruit works better than fresh. It is good to stock up on bananas, strawberries and blueberries in your freezer since these are the most likely fruits you will be mixing in your smoothies. Some even swear that frozen fruit tastes better. They help keep the drink chilled and make it creamy.
The advantage of buying frozen is that you can always have them even when they are not in season.
Frozen fruit concentrates also make for a better smoothies recipe. It can be a good base for your drink where you can add fruits, other juices and dairy products. Using this particular ingredient is especially helpful if your blender is not of the best kind and cannot crush ice very well. Concentrates blend better than ice cubes and will not strain your blender blades too much. Most of all, they give the smoothies more flavor. However, if the smoothies recipe really calls for ice, then it is better to crush the ice before mixing it in with the other ingredients in the blender. If you do not have an ice crusher, then most likely, you will have to do this manually. This could mean more effort but crushing ice is better than having ice chunks in your drink.
Milk and other milk product are essential for a delicious smoothie recipe.
The dairy will make your drink rich and creamier and it only takes a few tablespoons of milk or a cup of yogurt to accomplish this. You can also use ice cream, which will make the smoothie really delicious but will sacrifice the health benefits. There are different flavors of yogurt available and you can try mixing and matching these flavors with the fruit ingredients. Who knows? You might be able to invent an amazingly tasty smoothie.
As much as possible, include bananas in your smoothies recipe. Bananas are very healthy but they are perfect for smoothies because they provide a creamy and rich texture. If you happen to use acidic fruits like berries and oranges, the banana will even out the sour taste. Creating a balanced taste is also important. If you mix in acidic ingredients like tart fruits, then their taste has to be counteracted by putting in another ingredient such as bananas and milk. Doing so will result in a more delicious smoothie.
Experimenting with ingredients of a smoothies recipe makes preparation so much fun. Not only will you be able to learn how to mix flavors, you will also be enjoying more delicious drinks.

No matter what food, we all want reasonable consumption.
From the perspective of losing weight, the greatest help of sweet potato is: because it contains more food fiber, which can stimulate bowels effectively, and promote defecation. But even so, we also cannot rely on eating sweet potato to reduce weight, because of the sweet potato oxidase containing an enzyme easily in the intestines, of co2 gas. Eating more easily result to abdominal distension. The sweet potato content is high, so eating more easily lead to upset stomach and vomiting acid water.

Sweet potato is a basic food, not like many fruits and green vegetables, it is most rare. The general food is acidic, such as grain, poultry meat, etc., and the body’s PH value of 7.34, so it can help the body to keep acid-base balance. While eating sweet potatoes can lower blood cholesterol, prevent sub-health and cardiovascular disease and other “modern disease.”
Do you want to know how to eat sweet potato is more nutritious? First, we should avoid eating raw sweet potato. Many people in the South like to eat raw sweet potatoes. Sweet potato contains high Starch Content and, more difficult to digest if eaten raw, cooked the best food. Heated to high temperatures also allow digestible soluble fiber, so that shorter sugar chains, increased sweet potato sweet. Second, avoid eating alone. Eating sweet potatoes should be compatible with the other cereals. One to eat, then because of lower protein content will lead to unbalanced nutritional intake. Easy Beef Chili Recipe
Easy Beef Chili Recipe
This recipe is very easy to prepare. Chili doesn’t have to be made just with ground beef; it only needs to be a chili-laced stew or braise. The best chili is a chunky stew-and includes the charred taste from the grill. If you don’t have a grill, use a well-seasoned grill pan. There’s quite a bit of chili powder in this recipe. Bottlings vary tremendously-if yours is extremely hot, you may want to reduce the amount by half.Makes 4 servings. Here are ingredients and directions:
EASY BEEF CHILI
INGREDIENTS :
1 pound sirloin steak, cut against the grain into thin strips
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup chili powder
1 tablespoon lime juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
Canola oil for the grate or grill pan
2 medium onions, sliced into 1/2-inch rings
2 medium green bell peppers, cored, seeded, and quartered
8 Roma or plum tomatoes, halved
2 ears corn, husks removed
One 12-ounce bottle amber or lager beer
1/2 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon paprika, preferably smoked paprika
1 teaspoon salt, or more to taste
DIRECTIONS :
Toss the steak, garlic, 2 tablespoons chili powder, lime juice, and cumin in a large bowl; cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes, tossing once or twice.
Prepare a gas grill for high-heat cooking or build a well-ashed, high-heat coal bed in a barbecue grill. Lightly oil the grill grate and set it 4 to 6 inches over the fire. Alternatively, lightly oil a large grill pan and heat it over medium-high heat until a drop of water sizzles across its surface.
Place the onion rings, bell peppers, tomato halves, and corn on the grill or in the pan; cook until well marked with grill lines, turning occasionally, about 4 minutes. Transfer the vegetables to a cutting board; set aside.
Remove the steak from the marinade, keeping the slices coated. Grill until medium rare, turning once, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer to the cutting board (see Note).
Roughly chop the onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. Slice the kernels off the corn cobs. Chop the steak slices into bite-sized chunks. Put all of this in a large saucepan.
Pour in the beer and broth, add the paprika and the remaining 2 tablespoons chili powder, and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. (You can, of course, cook with the pan directly on the grill.) Partially cover, reduce the heat to low, and cook until thickened, about 20 minutes. Season with salt before serving.
Note: If you want to keep the steak medium rare, leave it out of the saucepan in step 5, cook the chili as directed, and then stir the chopped steak into the chili for the last 2 or 3 minutes of cooking, just to heat through.
Lots of fun preparing this special beef recipe and Bon Apetit.
